Are You Ready To Sell Your California Business?
Or, Interested In Buying a California Business
There are many rough waters to navigate through, whether you are preparing to sell or purchase a small or medium-sized business — Especially when it comes to TAXES!
From Jason Froehlich,
California Business Broker
Dear Prospective Seller or Buyer,
The success of selling your business or purchasing of a company depends upon having the right team of advisors. Successful entrepreneurs know how to find the best consultants to help them become successful.
As I’m sure you are aware, successful people seek the counsel of many advisors in any type of transaction they complete. They don’t jump into the pool with both feet unless they’ve checked the temperature.
Selling or buying a business is very similar to jumping in a pool. You have to make sure the temperature is just right before you decide to make the commitment to jump.
You realize, of course, you are making the right choice by reading this and getting as much information and guidance as you can to successfully sell your business, or buy a business. After all, you are a highly successful entrepreneur that knows with the right consultants you can make more money, or save a great deal of money.
What you will get from me is:
- The ability to sleep at night knowing someone is dedicated to getting you top dollar for your business — No Matter What Size! All completely done confidentially
- A commitment to keep your best interests in mind
- A team of advisors/consultants working to minimize your tax penalties
- Headache free consulting services dedicated to providing you with a plan to sell
What Qualifies Me To Sell Your Business?
Bragging about myself isn’t what I consider a quality worth speaking about. Sure, I’ve been party to hundreds of business transactions, but that doesn’t tell you much if you haven’t dealt with me before.
The ability to know what a small business owner’s concerns may be is the most important. Having someone on your side that is upfront and reachable is what you deserve.
Would some of your concerns be?
- Making sure the sale is done confidentially
- Making every effort to guide you through the after-sale TAX consequences
- Having the right steps in place to make sure the sale goes through smoothly
- Setting all expectations
- Taking care that the person selling your business treats it as highly as any other listing
- Making sure your business was marketed completely to get a good price
This isn't a full list of your concerns, but I can imagine some of these were on your list.
My experience at selling businesses came early in life. My father is and has always been a farmer and rancher. At times we have farmed a great deal of land and have raised hundreds of head of cattle.
The lessons of negotiating and selling or buying businesses came early when he would take me along to opportunities (or misfortunes) at farm auctions and partaking in buying used or foreclosed on farm equipment and land.
It was through those days at the auction houses and at the farms that I watch, learned, and partook in the sales of these entities.
After several years there, then on to running my own businesses and then finding the passion for helping business owners, I stepped into Commercial Business Lending as an SBA lender. Being with one of the 4th largest banks in the nation, I helped hundreds of business owners get financing to buy their first business.
Helping hundreds of entrepreneurs find financing so they could begin their dreams of owning their very own business led me down the path to helping business owners sell their businesses.
That same passion is there for selling businesses. I enjoy helping others find someone to take over their business, make a good profit on the sale, and watching them move onto other aspects of their life. My business is selling your business.
Is It The Right Time To Sell?
If you’re a business owner who doesn’t like straight talk and honest advice, I suggest you stop reading from this point on.
This question is quite popular when business owners call me and inquire about selling their business. The question is valid, but really doesn’t answer the deep down question that they really want to ask, which is a question for themselves — is it the right time for me to sell?
Timing is everything. That I won’t dispute, but if you haven’t planned and taken the right steps to sell your business, then it may never be the right time to sell. If you’ve been running your company lean for the last 20 years and taken every last cent out of the business in the hopes of a big payday when you sell, think again.
Or, there is the classic business owner who has worked the business for the last 35 years, and in the last 4 years, has not made one effort to increase revenues and take the necessary steps to showcase his business as a viable entity to purchase.
If you haven’t silently told me off in your head and are still reading this, I am assuming you are savvy and have run your business like a business and produced and gained market share in times of despair and in times of prosperity.
Then, my answer to your question about the timing of selling your business is, it doesn’t matter what is going on in the market place if you are ready to sell, then the time is right. You may think I have lost my mind, but I haven’t.
It boils down to a couple of factors in all industries. When times are rough the business owner that sticks to the basics and pays attention to his marketing and pricing will win over all his competition.
If you are gaining market share and haven’t lost large amounts of revenue, you can sell your business in any market. And, get a handsome price for it to boot.
Therefore, we are left with the question whether you are ready to sell or not. If you are ready to sell, contact me today and set up a FREE appointment to qualify your business.

Is It The Right Time To Buy A Business?
You may be looking at the financial papers or listening to all the television news stories about how difficult times may be, or how prosperous of an economy we are having, depending on what news channel you tune into.
Would you mind if I let you in on a little secret?
It doesn’t matter what the economy is doing! People love to buy and spend money. It doesn’t matter if they have lost their jobs, been relocated, or need to cut back on expenses. They are still going to spend and buy products and services.
We are just creatures of habit and our habits have been polished to enjoy spending and making purchases to help us feel good. Trust me, I love to spend my hard earned money.
Okay, to get back on track, is it the right time to buy? Yes and No.
Yes, it is the right time to buy if you have the right skill set to purchase a business, that has room for growth, and can operate it and do the right marketing to create a wealth of customers flooding your doors.
I am not in the business to teach people marketing, but I will let you in on another secret. If you don’t know how to market or don’t hire the right people to help you market your product or service, it doesn’t matter if the economy is booming or busting. Lack of this skill will put any business under.
No, timing is not right to buy a business that has been losing market share and revenues for the last 3 years. Unless, you have deep pockets and a team of turn around managers on board, with the help of an extensive industry analysis, to prove that you can take a failing business and make it prosperous again.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t doubt anyone’s capabilities. You have to realize that it doesn’t help the economy when small businesses fail. This country is built and runs off the small business owner. So, I want to see every single one of them succeed.
Nevertheless, if you’re ready to take control of your destiny and you’re earning potential, then the timing is right.
Ask yourself these questions:
- Have you always dreamed of having your own business?
- Are you tired of weak and inexperienced bosses?
- Are you fed up with being on someone else's treadmill?
- Have you realized your paycheck is left in the hands of others?
- Are you ready to take control of your future?
If you’ve answered “YES” to the above questions, then you’re ready to take the next step and buy a California business.
Do You Want To Grow Your Business By Acquisition?
If this is the case, I can help you find another location, or help you acquire another business. There is not better way to gain market share than to purchase an already existing business. You don’t have to spend months and years battling to get customers. You start with a customer base already purchasing from you.
There are numerous businesses that come by my way that don’t make it onto any business listing service. We have established relationships with CPAs, Attorneys, other brokers, and other networks that provide us with information about companies looking to sell. It makes for a smoother transition for the seller.
In addition to our networks, we consult with business owners about planning their exit from the business and have first hand knowledge of businesses coming for sale in the near future.
How Soon Will You Make The Decision To Sell?
How relaxed would you be if you could continue to run you business while someone else is selling it? Before you answer that question, imagine the headache it would create for you if you had to take all the phone calls and email inquiries about the sale of your business.
Would it slow your regular day down? Would you find yourself neglecting your best customers because you are trying to talk to some person about buying your business just to find out that they were not interested anyway; or, for that matter, just “kicking the tires” at your expense?
How would you advertise your business for sale? How would you keep it confidential from your customers and employees that you were selling?
Even if you did find out how to advertise your business and market it to the public, would you want to tax your already busy schedule just to save a couple extra bucks?
If you’ve gotten this far you realize that what you do, you do best. What I do I do best, and that is selling California Businesses.
Like the expert you are in your field, I am sure you are searching for an expert to sell your business.
How comfortable would you be when your business sells and you didn’t have to lift a finger besides providing the needed information when requested? I can imagine you being relaxed and completely relieved.
